Kate Winslet :: "Less glamorous"character

Kate Winslet has portrayed a slew of sophisticated women but the Oscar-winning actress says she prefers to play "less glamorous" roles. In the new film "Contagion," which was released on Friday, September 9, The 35-year-old British actress portrays Dr. Erin Mears, an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer who works to find a pathogen and vaccine for a deadly airborne virus that is threatening to spread around the world. The film also stars Matt Damon and Jude Law. "I really prefer playing the less glamorous characters to the perfectly manicured ones," Winslet said in an interview provided by Warner Brothers Pictures. "I do really like playing people who really look like people."
"I mean, no, I didn't have hair and makeup and the Epidemic Intelligence Service officers that I met ... they did say to me that they didn't even own any makeup," she added. "They might put on a little lipstick if they have to meet government officials, but other than that, no hair, no makeup."

Winslet said she did not know what an Epidemic Intelligence Service agent did before she took on the role. "These people are absolutely brilliant and quite extraordinary people and I was very grateful to them for sharing some of their stories with me," she said. "It made a huge difference to my knowledge of the role I had to play." Given the subject matter of the film, Winslet said that the cast and crew were increasingly aware of germs. "You've never see so many bottles of hand sanitizer on a movie set, probably in your life," she said. "It did make us more germ conscious, some people even had a hard time sleeping in their hotel rooms, knowing that a stranger had slept in that exact same bed the night before. It really made people a bit crazy."
"I didn't quite go to that extreme," she added. "But as a parent, one is of course health-conscious and germ-conscious on behalf of our kids and it and it has made me crank it up a notch. Not in an obsessive way, definitely not, but there has been more hand-washing that goes on and shoes going on and off going into people's houses and other people going into our house."
Winslet rose to fame with her role as Rose in another disaster film - 1997 movie "Titanic." She won her first Oscar for her performance in the 2008 movie "The Reader." Winslet, who is currently dating Louis Dowler, and has two children, Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, from marriages to directors Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes. Winslet and Mendes separated in March 2010. Miley Cyrus ::Talks About "Disney Star" Image

Miley Cyrus, most famous for her title role in the Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana," has once again addressed critics of her off-screen behavior, adding that she looks up to "Bad Reputation" punk rocker Joan Jett.Miley Cyrus, 18 and known for pop songs such as "Can't Be Tamed," made her comments about Jett, 52, in an interview published in the September 2011 issue of V magazine.
"People see me as this perfect Disney star, and the moment I put out a record that says 'I'm not 11 years old anymore,' people look down on me," Cyrus told Jett, according to People magazine. "That's why I have always looked up [to] you. When you came out, people were shocked that there was a chick that wanted to rock as hard as the guys."
"I love that you never apologized for who you were," Cyrus added. "It's something I had to learn. I'm sick of feeling as if I owe someone an apology for being who I am."
Jett was most popular in the 1980s and spurred hits such as "I Love Rock n' Roll" and "Bad Reputation," the theme song of the short-lived comedy series "Freaks and Geeks." Jett was portrayed by "Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart in the 2010 film "The Runaways," which was based on the rocker's former all-girl band.
People quoted Jett as telling Cyrus in the V interview: "I was thinking to myself ... how difficult it must be to lead your life as a teenager with the paparazzi and the amount of press you're surrounded by. "I thought to myself, 'Wow that was kind of a blessing that we didn't have that stuff when I was growing up in The Runaways.'"
Cyrus began her acting career when she was 8 and rose to fame with her role on "Hannah Montana," which ended earlier this year after four seasons.
Cyrus said last year she had outgrown "Hannah Montana" and began raising eyebrows when she showcased a more mature image in performances and music videos.
Cyrus has debuted several tattoos and in July, showed off new ink - an equal sign on her ring finger, which may symbolize her support of marriage equality. The singer has even found a fan in 45-year-old troubled actor Charlie Sheen, who was famously fired from the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" earlier this year.
One of Cyrus' most criticized incidents came in December 2010, when a TMZ video showed her smoking the hallucinogenic herb salvia out of a bong and swearing and laughing. Salvia is legal in California.
Cyrus addressed the clip months later, telling Marie Claire magazine: "I'm not perfect. I made a mistake. I'm disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."
Kelly Osbourne, rocker Ozzy Osbourne's daughter who stars with Cyrus in the upcoming film "So Undercover," defended the singer and actress after the video was published.
During the past year, Cyrus has also had to deal with her parents' near-divorce. Her father and "Hannah Montana" co-star, Billy Ray, and mother Tish announced their plans to end their 17-year marriage in October 2010. In February of this year, Cyrus' father told GQ magazine that "Hannah Montana" "destroyed" his family.
He later called off his divorce and addressed his remarks in an interview on the ABC show "The View" in March, saying: "I don't think Hannah Montana ruined my family. "Now fame, fame is a different animal. You've got to be careful with that thing."

Jessica Simpson :fed up with the ample, ahem, assets

Jessica Simpson is used to her body being the subject of tabloid scrutiny. According to the latest report, the pop-star-turned-country crooner is fed up with the ample, ahem, assets that helped bring her fame and has opted for breast reduction surgery. “She’s never loved having a huge chest,” the U.K. tabloid The Sun quoted a friend saying. The report added that Simpson is hoping to slim down before her November wedding to NFL player Eric Johnson.
Simpson’s rep declined to comment. But a source familiar with the singer’s plans told ABCNews.com that Simpson had no plans of getting a breast reduction and hasn’t even set a wedding date.In the past, Simpson’s own father, Joe Simpson, a former Baptist minister, got into hot water when he famously bragged about his daughter’s bosom. “Jessica never tries to be sexy. She just is sexy,” he told the New York Post’s PageSix.com in 2004.
“If you put her in a T-shirt or you put her in a bustier, she’s sexy in both. She’s got double Ds!
You can’t cover those suckers up!” Recently, Simpson appeared to have made peace with her body. After she endured a public hazing when she dared to wear a pair of high-waist jeans at a 2009 concert, showing off a more curvaceous figure, Simpson headlined VH1′s reality series,
The Price of Beauty” in which she traveled the world in search of what people find beautiful and why. “I have always believed that beauty comes from within, and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect,” Simpson said in a statement to ABCNews.com before the show aired in 2009.
“I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful.” One person who thinks Simpson is beautiful is Johnson. They began dating last May and got engaged in November. In keeping with his former 49er colors, Johnson gave Simpson a Neil Lane ruby ring flanked by two diamonds. OK! magazine estimated the cost of the ring at $185,000, “because it’s a ruby and because of its rareness.” Explaining how well their relationship was working, Simpson told People last year, “This is just normal, thank God. He’s very, very supportive. [I] couldn’t ask for a better man in my life right now.” Asked if Johnson were the one, she replied: “I never go to that because I already went there, so I’m not gonna jinx my own self. He’s the one for me right now! I’m very happy. I’m in a great place and if right now could last forever, I’d take it.”
